We decided to change the Shifting Metropolis project and mold it into a more low tech, outside/online approach.
Participants made trajectories through the city and tagged them in the real world with stickers of QR codes, 2D bar codes. QR codes can be read with many devices: specialized readers, but also smart phones, computers with webcams etc.
The codes point to media nodes on the okno site that are related to that location.
to materialize it some more, we installed a giant top view of Brussels in the OKNO space with the codes at the exact locations, so that we have an overview of what had been tagged in the city.
The idea is to add personal views and material to the city and the city map. We made something like a large writing wall where people can pin up their photo's, sounds and stories. But the wall is the city itself and it's virtual representation.
It's less posh and shiny than the Skopje version, but who wants to stick with a proven format anyway...
The nodes of this project have a special tag, ShiftBrussels http://okno.be/taxonomy/term/41
These are not meant to be viewed with a normal browser, though of course you can.
During the project the OKNO space is equiped with a large map of Brussels, marked with QR codes and a barcode reader that fetches the content from the site.
The codes have also been attached to the physical spaces that are related to the entries, so you can get the links by reading them from the realworld objects if you happen to have a reader.
